Tales from the Auction: The last of the Khador

With the sales I have been doing on EBay, I am proud to show you the last of the Khador I got almost a year ago at Gamers' Haven's Auction. I have a LOT of boxes to ship out today as my former models are on their way to California, Iowa, New York, and Tennessee. Few will remain in Colorado.

The first unit are Winter Guard Riflemen. I painted them to mimic the other Winter Guard unit I did. The two look really cool together as the red really pops and the white highlights really make a nice contrast.

The other unit is a unit of Widowmaker, long-range snipers. I really like the sculpt on that female leader. To break the red, I used some green here and they really contrast nicely with the rest of the army. I know others have used this type of scheme before, but I wanted to use green sparingly to highlight a unit.

Tales From the Auction: Khador Winter Guard

It's been a while since I posted any real Warmachine models... Well here is a unit of Winter Guard. I have the full unit with the officer in there... just because.

You will notice there are two Kayazi in there... Well you would be right. I made a mistake at a convention when I hit the bargain bin. I knew I had a unit of 8 of these guys and I bought the wrong blister! I despaired about it for a while until I decided that "to hell with it" and simply paint the 2 guys as members of the unit. They add some extra poses. Plus, one of them I converted to hold a banner.

And you know my thoughts about banners... never enough of them on the battlefield!

The paint job is very "classic scheme", which I really like. I never had a red-colored army before.

Tales from the Auction: 3 more Khador Jacks

Continuing my painting of the Khador jacks I won at the Auction last year. The first one here is the Decimator now turned into a Black Yvan... Next is the Berzerker and finally the Devastator (a jack I do not like stat-wise).

Tales from the auction: Khador Warjacks

In that same auction from last year, I bought myself a number of Khador Warjacks. Other ones, I traded for - with a fellow auction goer. During the auction seeing we were constantly bidding on the same lots, we decided to split the lots and trade afterwards. He was looking for anything and I wanted jack - a lot of jacks. Unsurprisingly, I managed to get the many jacks I wanted and he ended up with a bunch of infantry I didn't care for. So with both Josh and I having what we wanted, I slowly began to expand my army of Khador jacks.

Again, I used a basic color scheme of silver and red for these guys. I also gave these guys "names" based on Communist countries... Although the decimator didn't. You will see why in a few days... He does have two added flags on its body. You know my weakness for banners and flags!

Banners and flags are like cowbells: you always need more.

Tales from the auction: Two Warlocks

This long coming tale dates back to last January... I purchased a number of Circle Oroboros warlocks and after slowly painting them.

Okay I admit, I started them then I simply abandoned them, partially done on my table.

Why? Because I had little interest in actually finishing them. But I suddenly felt like I should finish them, so I move them from the "on hold" pile to the "paint me now pile". After over a year, I completed them.

The basic color scheme was very simple and "nature-y". I painted them to go with the rest of my Circle models. A base of dark green with gold highlights and basic green color for the coats. Not very original, but I really like Privateer's color scheme. I use bone on the sword instead of metal.

As a side twist, I decided to give them a dark skin tone. I think it gives them an air of uniqueness.

Tales from the Auction: Khador Manowar Demolishers

So this installment, I bring you a unit of Khador Man-O-War Demolition unit. These guys strongly resemble my Rhulic Horgenhold Forge Guard but are tougher. I got 4 of models I painted up. Then I realized they come in units of 3 or 5!

GAH!

Well that did not phase me. I painted them anyway. One of them had a broken arm. So that seemed like an open invitation for... A FLAG BEARER!!! My drill and my other tools immediately came into play. And thus...

I would see that flag bearer as an objective.

Tales From the Auction: Khador Great Bears

Today, the Auction yielded some Khador Great Bears. These are part of the trio of named characters that each faction has. I painted another such group, the Cygnar 13th Strike Team last summer.

Unlike the Cygnar models these were rather bulky and uninteresting to paint. I wasn't inspired to use these guys anywhere... I'm sure they're good but I did not enjoy painting them. Felt like a chore...

Plus I discovered that one of the model's axe was glued on backwards (by the previous owner)! I left it that way...

Tales from the Auction: Khador Warjacks Galore

Today a mob of Khador warjacks!

The First One is a Beast-09 wanna be. I got this guy already painted with textured paint and all. Though I originally planned on stripping it, the paint job is pretty good, so I kept it and plan to use it as Beast-09.

Next is a slightly-converted Destroyer. I had a spare cannon I played with, so I had to be a little creative to make is stick. It was originally a juggernaut, but I wanted some variety...

Finally three juggernauts.

Not shown on the pictures,I used some pseudo-Russo-Soviet writing to "name" the Destroyer and the Juggernauts with code numbers based on the countries of the old Iron Curtain: HUN, CZE, POL, etc. This differentiates the 5 juggernauts that I have... (the 5th one was posted here, back in January of 2012)...

Tales from the auction: Aleksandra Zerkova and Koldun Lord

It's been a while since I posted a painting update to the blog. Well, mini fans, the wait is over, I have more than a week's worth of goodies. A lot of it are "Tales from the Auction" that have been waiting on my painting desk. Many people have noticed the many red hand I had when attending games and the like... No, those weren't scabs. Neither were they painful. They were merely remnants of paint jobs...

Today I have two Khador models: Warcaster Aleksandra Zerkova and a Koldun Lord. Like all my previous Khador, I have yet to field them in an actual game.

Zerkova loves warjacks, Greylords and Doom Reavers (which I do not own). What I like most about he is the mini's sculpt she is dynamic.

The Koldun Lord will be great with my Greylords.

Tales from the Auction: Khador

Last August, Gamers' Haven ran another of their great auctions. This time, I got my hands a on a large amount of Khador, enough for three armies! I was really interested in the jacks but the miniatures are quite nice! Here is the first batch of completed Khador. It features the Butcher, a greylord ternion and a manhunter.

I chose some very "core" colors for them because I do not have a mostly-red army... until now.

Tales From the Auction: Cryx Army, Part 3

This is the last part of this series on the Cryx army from January's auction. I have a few more pictures to post.

The only one I have a story about are the nightwretch at the bottom. As I tried to put the mini on the base, I realized - to my horror - that the leg was sheared. I tried to glue it, but the shear was just too bad and the foot sheared. After looking for way to fix it, I could not find a way to fix it correctly and the location of the shear was just bad. I tried to do it but didn't feel confident in the stability of the miniature. I ended with doing it like this so I can get to use it both as an active or as a broken jack...
